The MAAD in June- what you can expect when you come with us for the next one on July 13th!

We have heard about Market of Artists and Designers (MAAD) for a longgggg time, but the fact that we hold full-time day jobs or are being constantly weighed down by academics during semester time and heavy volunteer commitments made it difficult for us to check it out in the past year. But on 1st June 2012 Friday, the group of us finally decided to visit this highly interesting monthly fair. Hurrah- for all of us!

Oh and by the way...admission is free!

Sitters getting ready.

On our arrival, we made a beeline for Portraits After Dark. We were gonna be sitters for 20mins and drawn by so many artists! That was a 1st experience for all of us. We felt like stars, with a spotlight shone onto us and garnering such intense attention from so many artists observing and drawing our posture, features and body language in detail.
Artists focussing intently on their work.

Portraits after Dark is organized by Organization of Illustration Council - a group and networking platform for Singapore illustrators. In their words, they "aim to spread the love for drawing/ illustrating, to make their illustrators and their work known and to create a vibrant community for illustrators."

Thou shall not move an inch while being drawn.

There are so many things to see and experience there. In fact, there are abundant opportunites to take interesting photos of people and of artists. Perfect for our theme - "Bonding through the arts and heritage"!

20 mins of not moving a hair is no small feat. What an experience!

After the 20mins, all artists who have drawn you will clip their work for exhibition as shown above for display. If you like their portrait of you, BUY THEM! Only at $10 each, and all proceeds go directly back to the artist.

A portrait that one of us bought.
And here's another one! Every illustrator has his/her own style, so every portrait is unique. For all its artistic value and experience, this is priceless. So....
One of us bought 5 portraits of herself! It was actually excrutiating to choose because they were all so special.

Other things that you can expect to see at Red Dot Museum:

Colourful designs

Handmade items
Including one-of-a-kind accessories
And even furniture - with an artistic twist!

Not to forget the live band that plays there during the event till late. Oh and have we mentioned...booze right inside the musueum ;)

The next upcoming MAAD will be held on 13th July, Friday Night at Red Dot Museum. And we are organzing a get-together to go there! Just so you know, we have already reserved 2 slots of Portraits of the Dark. 1st come 1st serve!

So what are you waiting for, hurry register for our competition and this tour at the registration tab now! Note: for participants who have already registered, do check your email for instructions on how to register for this trip to MAAD. Feel free to bring your friends along, the more the merrier!

Hope to see you there!

Post Festival Village @ Esplanade Park Tour on 26th May 2012

On 26th May 2012, our volunteers and members from The Frontier CC YEC led a group of photographers to Festival Village @ Esplanade Park! This is in conjunction with Singapore Arts Festival 2012.

This tour was guided by Mr Jeffrey Tan, Head of Commune of Singapore Arts Festival, who gave a concise and excellent overview of the various attractions around Festival Village itself.

There was tangle at the kids section where children went wild playing with ribbons and strings..

And then there was the entertaining Bridge cafĂ© project which featured elderly folks AND youngsters spontaneously breaking out in dances and songs every 15mins or so…

and so many more!

Notably, this was also the maiden visit to Festival Village for many of our photography participants. The organizing committee was thrilled to introduce this festival to everyone!

Afterall, the arts is not only about expression, it’s about participation and having fun at the same time too (:

All photographs kindly taken by our members, Daniel and Patrick. More pictures are up on facebook at facebook.com/thefrontierccyec. There will be many more photoshoot tours coming up in June – September to various museums, Singapore Heritage Festival, Singapore Night Festival and Market of Artists and Designers!

Register yourself for our photography competition "Insight: Bonding through the Arts + Heritage" now! Submission ends 27th August 2359 hours.

Next up will be a sneak peak to our upcoming MAAD tour to Red Dot Museum on the 13th July. Stay tuned!
